Aviation
Aviation is of great significance to the Netherlands. Schiphol, one of Europe’s largest airports, connects the Netherlands to global activities and developments. In addition, airports directly and indirectly stimulate regional economies as well as the national economy. The good infrastructure and good business climate ensure a strong position for the Netherlands as an aviation country. Moreover, the Netherlands has a great deal of expertise in the fields of transport and logistics.
In the White Paper on Dutch Aviation of April 2009, the Cabinet set out the ambitions for the aviation sector for the mid to long term. The Cabinet is striving to create a robust network of connections with key cities and regions of the world. In this regard, sustainability and the retention of our competitive position have the highest priority. The starting point in this is the selective growth of Schiphol. Furthermore, a study will be conducted to determine the extent to which the airports in Eindhoven and Lelystad could play a role in this. Extensive information on the policy for the mid to long term is provided in the White Paper on Dutch Aviation.
At the global level, the Netherlands scores high in the sustainability of its aviation sector. The Netherlands is at the vanguard of environment-friendliness and nuisance limiting measures. The Cabinet wants to strengthen this position by stimulating fuel-efficient, cleaner and safer flying.
