Aviation safety
Aviation safety
All flying is prohibited until it has been proved that it can take place safely. This is the basic principle, nationally and internationally, to guarantee aviation safety. To keep civil aviation safety at home and abroad at a high level, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment applies a policy that takes into account international regulations, technological changes in aviation and people’s experiences of safety. Part of this policy is to provide travellers with the best possible information about unsafe airlines. For example, since March 2006, a list of airlines that are banned from flying in European Union airspace has been available. More information is given at the left site of this page under ‘questions and answers’.
The creation of the European Safety Agency put harmonisation of safe flying conditions on the agenda in 2006. These conditions are intended to form the basis for issuing safety permits in Europe. The guidelines for stricter checks on non-EU airlines has also come into effect in 2006.
