Schiphol
International airport
Schiphol Airport is a major driver of the Dutch economy. It is the largest airport in the Netherlands and has an excellent network of connections with the rest of the world.
The Cabinet has chosen to allow Schiphol to grow to a maximum of 510,000 flight movements per year by 2020. In this way, the airport can strengthen its position as an international hub and meet the competition from foreign airports. The focal point in this is intercontinental business traffic. To enable growth in other types of air traffic, such as holiday flights, the Cabinet is offering the airports of Eindhoven and Lelystad the opportunity to develop further.
Extensive information on the future of Schiphol and aviation in general is provided in the Aviation Policy Paper that was published in April 2009.
