Driving licence
Everyone who lives in the Netherlands and wants to drive a car, lorry, bus or motorcycle must be at least 18 years of age and have a driving licence. This can be obtained by taking a theoretical and practical exam at the Dutch driving licence autonomous administrative authority (Centraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen). It is also necessary to apply for a certificate of fitness using what is known as a ‘personal declaration’ (Eigen Verklaring). Applicants can submit their driving licence application to the municipal authorities once they have the certificate and have passed both exams.
